Rapper 50 Cent Offends Holly Robinson Peete With Tweet About Autism

July 6, 2012 | Filed under: News,Shameful | Posted by: Staff

50 Cent got a lot more than he bargained for when he decided to insult a “tweeter” by calling him “autistic” and a “special ed” kid.

The rapper who has over 6 million followers on the social network, Twitter, was responding to a “tweeter” who tweeted, “Release the album or get shot again.”.

Although the rapper was speaking lightly, what he must not have thought about was that, of his over 6 million followers, some have been affected by autism, whether they are on the autism spectrum themselves or are the parents or relatives of someone who is.

Actress and autism activist Holly Robinson Peete caught wind of “Fiddy”s tweets and responded by writing an open letter to the rapper. Robinson Peete expressed her disappointment with his tweets and went on to offer him a brief lesson in what it really means to be autistic.

Do you even know what autism is? And what exactly does “autistic” look like? Do you know how wildly prevalent autism is? 1 in 88 have it. That’s 1 in 54 boys. Families suffer a social stigma you will never know. It is a financial and emotional drain for millions…

The actress went on to share a picture of her son, who is autistic, to show the rapper “what autism really looks like”. The actress even shared that her son was “a HUGE fan” of 50 cent.

Peete insisted that “Fiddy” remove the offensive tweets and he obliged but many in the special needs community are not satisfied and they want a formal apology from the rapper.

Whether the rapper will apologize remains to be seen.

When I see her speak she just looks like Momma Bear!!! She will speak cordially and inform you of what is going on, tell her opinion, her thoughts, but if you say something or do something that looks or sounds like you are disrespecting her kids or even her husband, just seems like 180th and Hoover could come out. Earrings off, shoes off and it is on! She does it in a more non violent, respectful way, but that just seems like she could get ghetto on you real quick. He needed to be put in his place, and no one better than Holly. Reply

This only shows you the ignorance of 50 cents. I have a 15 yr old son that has autism. My son does very well academically, and his on the internet often, he is always reading articles about things happening in the world. He has a facebook and youtube account. I mention this because, what if perhaps my son run across this information. 50cent never considered how this would offends the thousands of people affected by autism, a child and their parents.

50cent ain’t worth a penny. He only shows us how shallow and ignorant he is. You can take a fool out the projects, but oftentimes you can’t take the projects out the fool.

This only proves 50cents has money, but he’s not rich. He is poor and wretched. Reply

This guy is a rapper. He like most of his kind routinely refer to our race as n*gg*rs and black women as b*tches for profit. IMO he’s not worth anyone’s time to demand an apology from. Reply

I agree with you, David2001, I would not waste a tweet on those so described. Reply

Everyone is so sensitive these days. Holley’s autistic son is not 50′s problem/concern. Big deal. So she has an autistic child. The world will still keep turning. I doubt if 50 will lose any sleep over Holley and her son. Now this man might have to fake an apology just to satisfy her. Geeesh!! Reply

Obviously you don’t have an autistic child or relative , it’s difficult as well as expensive, you look out for yours, just like holly and millions do daily, I’m sure even you could make better comments, holly also said her son is a fan of his! I guess you have to wait your turn and see if he comments on something that concerns you! Reply

You travel the U S and abroad , don’t you know the plight of autism, instead of making big dumb comments, make an big intelligent donation, and allow some families who struggle caring for their child and the expense, you could assist them in that way , rather than offending someone! You have to be more responsible, Fame and money should never take precedence over common sense! Okay, Michael Scott, that was a little difficult for me to follow but yeah the original tweeter was wrong to come at 50 cent like that.

I am the single parent of Autistic teen age sons. I don’t see here exactly what 50 cent replied to the tweeter but there is no way that he should have used a population of human beings’ cognitive disability to throw an insult. Reply

You are right… It is also the price of having and desiring 5,000,000 followers. Responsibility comes with celebrity. Sometimes pushing the “send” button is the last thing you should do and yet we still do it. I guess it shows that fame doesn’t mean 100% socially conscious! Reply

I don’t think its 50 cents job to curtail his thought because of holly’s or anyone else problems at home. Its an issue ,but not a forum everytime someone says something ! It kills me that no one has expressed concerns about the fact holly’s stated her son likes 50 cents ! Wow !!!! But it cool for him to hear this dude ,call women B’s Hoe’s , talk about smoking weed and getting head! Etc pick you poison Holly! You would have done better keeping your mouth shut! Reply

jerjorju July 6, 2012 - 11:46 pm

Malik you raise a good point about Holly’s son liking 50 Cents. However, 50 Cents should not insult people with a disability. It has nothing to do with Holly’s problems or anyone else’s problems at home. It has to do with him making fun of people who had no choice about how they were born. Reply

Corbin56 you are ignorant I think the tables would be different if you had a son, brother or daughter who was autistic. I’m offended and I don’t have anyone related to me that’s autistic but I have several friends who have autistic children and I know their struggles so therefore you and 50 cent need to work in a home with autistic children to experience it. Please keep your insensitive comments to yourself because we don’t need them. A real man would offer an apology and then write a check to the Autisim foundation. Reply
