Afrika Bambaataa Looking to Create National Hip-Hop Museum in New York

One of the key players during hip-hop's earliest days, DJ Afrika Bambaataa, will pay tribute to the world he helped create. According to Vintage Vinyl News (via NME), Bambaataa has signed a letter stating his intentions to create the National Museum of Hip Hop at the Kingsbridge Armory in the Bronx.

His plan is contingent, however, on who has the winning bid to transform the armory. The long-empty space is now the subject of several redevelopment proposals; the winner will likely be chosen by the end of the year by the New York City Economic Development Corporation. Bambaataa hopes to drum up support from fellow hip-hop pioneers and discuss the project with Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr.

I hope Bambaataa presents the video for "Planet Rock" as argument in favor of the museum
